When other parts of the country are blanketed in white, with bare trees and a monochromatic sky, here in Carmel Valley, winter is a verdant landscape coming to life. Emerald-green hillsides, fern-filled canyons, and oak woodlands draped with wispy, sage-colored curtains of lace lichen urge us to come out and play.
Whether you’re the adventurous type or just nature-curious, our 500 acres offer unforgettable outdoor experiences all year round. This time of year, keep your eyes peeled for wood mint sprouting along shady banks, mushrooms popping out of the moist earth (just don’t eat them unless you’re with a certified mycologist!), and buckeyes—large, brown seeds that resemble chestnuts—splitting open and sending thick shoots into the ground. Take advantage of mild daytime temperatures that make exploring even our sunniest ridgetops no sweat. And enjoy clear, star-studded night skies and moonlight so bright you can see your shadow.
In addition to our own trails, we’re blessed to be adjacent to Garland Ranch Regional Park, offering over 50 miles of spectacular scenery. It’s also dog-friendly, and mountain biking is permitted on certain trails.
Explore our property and beyond on your own, or join one of our complimentary naturalist-led hikes. Our guides are experts in the flora, fauna, and history of the area, plus they know all the best selfie spots and will happily snap pictures of you and your crew. Private hikes can also be arranged. Call the Activities Team at 831.626.2577 for more information, trail recommendations, and pricing for on or off-property private hikes.
